The Rev. Kate Forer
Spiritual Director & Ordained Minister
My journey to spiritual direction has been anything but a straight line. I grew up in a vibrant, ecumenical environment—navigating Protestant pews, Catholic classrooms, and Lutheran summer camps.
When I graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, I felt a persistent pull toward ministry, but I wasn't quite ready for the pulpit. Claiming I had "never learned to do anything practical," I chose to apprentice myself to an organic farmer for three years. It was there, among the figs and basil, that I first discovered the healing power of creation and the profound, slow rhythms of growth.
After those years in the soil, I went on to graduate from Duke Divinity School and began twenty years of service as an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. Throughout my time serving as a Youth, Associate, and Senior Pastor in North Carolina, Connecticut, and New York, I led congregations committed to inclusion and God’s radical welcome.
I have had the incredible privilege of standing with people during their most vulnerable and sacred moments. However, I have come to see that the work I am most called to now happens away from the pulpit. My focus has shifted to the essential work of one-on-one accompaniment—helping individuals heal, explore, and tend to their own relationship with the Divine, however they define it.
I bring my love for the earth, my deep theological roots, and two decades of pastoral heart to every session. I look forward to walking with you.
